Welcome to My World

In the past couple months I have been going on and on about this treasured library of mine, but with nothing to show for it. Does she really have a library, or is she just living in happy-fantasyland? Yes and yes. Because when I enter this room, for me, it's like entering a fantasyland of sorts.

Enjoy the photos. Taken by my very talented mother, by the way, who happens to own a real kick-ass digital camera.

I have library lust.

How cozy! And thanks for the Nixon disclaimer.

Yes, cosy is how I want it to be. And regarding Nixon, my husband is anything but fond of that man; he's obsessed with the Nixon presidency, and how it relates to the presidency in the U.S. right now.

I use my plate rails as bookshelves too! Lovely library.

It looks absolutely heavenly. What a wonderful book retreat.

Beautiful! I'm glad you clarified about the Nixon, cuz I was going to ask. I especially like your "quirky bookshelf" — I mean the physical thing as opposed to its contents (though I'm sure they're lovely too). You get the feeling from its unique dimensions that it was crafted to house a specific collection.

a library -- very nice. if only we had the space and nixon books.

another reason to move to canada.

Your library is wonderful. I wanna come over and play :)

From the looks of your books I thought you might enjoy this recent photo of my son...

And this picture/quote I put together in photoshop as well...

Happy Reading!

Thank you, Mr. Monk! That is one heck of a cute kid!

I have library lust as well! Your library is gorgeous and looks so cozy and inviting. Do you have a resident library cat?

Janelle, we have TWO library cats! And they really love that room, too. Future photos will hopefully have the library cats in there, too!

**very, very jealous** My books are piled all over the dorm room, my parents' house and friends' apartments. Not only do I need shelves, I need the space to put the shelves.

Beautiful pictures; it looks like home yet.

When we moved to a new apartment with a little extra room we built a library in all the walls up to the ceiling. It was intended to be my studio but it turned to be the ironing room in time. So, we bought a nice old desk for me to work in the living-room and the newer books ended scattered all over the house.

Okay. Its official. I'm jealous. What a divine space to read and create. Having just moved and having only recently slapped my books up onto shelves in no order at all, I envy you. Although. I will say this. While I cannot find a single thing I'm looking for on my bookshelves, I have certainly come across some things I had forgotten I had!

Congrats on getting settled in your new library. You were right -- it is delicious.

Same thing happened to me, Callie! I found quite a few books I had forgotten about, which is all part of the fun of setting up one's new space.

Cannot wait to hear more about your new digs!

Ah, what a wonderful room. It takes me way back to a time before children when I, too, could have a room devoted to the love of books. Happysigh.

Patricia, I love the way it all looks. Love it. I like the way that there are pictures and the occassional sideways books on the shelves. Really really nice. And it is wild, just yesterday I was looking at one of the Barbara Hodgson books [can't recall the name] and looking at all the pictures inside it, like a scrapbook almost, and I was wondering what her writing is like. I love illustrated novels, like W.G. Sebald's stuff.

You need a really really nice BIG comfy chair!

Wow, what a nice use of space! Mine are just all over the place in piles. It looks like a nice cozy room!

What a marvellous library! The room looks perfect.

The piccies look good!

Books as ornaments (Reading Women, New York ,etc.) too. Just as decorative as the vase of flowers. I generally find large personal libraries far more intriguing than local libraries or bookshops...and yours certainly wouldn't be an exception!

I'm jealous of your space and your books! Love the 'dream' piece above the shorter bookshelf.

What a wonderful home library! And does it always look this neat and organized?!?
