Some pirate illustrations I did recently for Scholastic UK. Who knew drawing pirates could be so much fun?

Great pirate illos! Pirates have been a main theme in my commissioned writing over the last year - it's crazy, but the publishing world in the US (and clearly the UK) is crazy for cutthroats. They are the new wizards. Watch out Harry and thank you Johnny Depp.

Ain't it the truth, Liam? When I was asked to draw these guys, I immediately thought about you, and what you had told me about the pirate craze a few months ago.
Hey! Keep me in mind for any future pirate books! Arrrrr!!

You need to draw pirates more often!

When is it going to occur to the pirate at the bottom that he can slash the coconut with his scimitar and chill?

Good stuff. I thought pirates were supposed to be scary. I think the guys at the top and bottom are kinda sweet looking. Guess I should read the book...

What can I say? I like my pirates cuddly.

Irony of ironies: these could have also applied to the Liberal convention!
Your work, as always, amazes.

Haha,Carmi! So true!
Though I must confess that I am quite pleased with Dion winnning; in retrospect he is the best choice, even better than Kennedy. Crossing fingers and hoping things will get better...

Pirates are very popular at the moment. My favourite pirates are in a picture book called How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long. The next book coming out is Pirates Don't Change Diapers. Very funny.
So I agree. More pirates from you please.

Monique, if I was really smart, I'd write a children's book that has both pirates and penguins!

Never liked pirates, really; but your's are the cuttest I've ever see.
Patricia: I'm pleasant to announce to you that I'm back posting after a 5 month abstention. The explanation is at the Fabian Bielinsky's post. Hope you'll have time to come to visit.
