BACA Off to the Future

Ecklerehm

So apparently Rebecca Eckler and Erica Ehm are collaborating on a children's book, to be called Mischievous Moms, and to be published by Key Porter. Ahem.

As much as it pains me to wrap my mind around that news, I cannot wait to review this little Canadian celebrity gem. Meeeeeowwww!!

It's Christmas for Grannies, Too

Notcot

I have noticed some great gift sites online recently saying some very nice things about my illustrated book Good Granny/Bad Granny, but I gotta say that this site is the tops when it comes to gushing over my book. I'd never heard of notcot, but with a subheader like "a visual filtration of ideas + aesthetics + amusement", I figure it's gotta be pretty cool. And besides, their recommendations really are oh-so-fab, dahling.

Town Crier Interview

Here's an interview I had recently with Lorianna De Giorgio, the Arts & Entertainment reporter for the Town Crier. I've scanned the interview and photo, and cut and paste it so it can fit on the blog properly. I was pretty nervous about the interview, because talking to someone in person is quite different from taking the time to write out one's answers via email. I have a tendency to ramble and blather and generally not make sense, but Lorianna is obviously a professional, because she made me sound way more interesting than I really am!

The December cartoon for the Town Crier. Cute, huh? I wanted a Christmas-themed cartoon, of course, but with a dash of political humour thrown in, for good measure. If you're curious, the two elves who look like they're about to get into blows are none other than Giorgio Mammoliti and Rob Ford. Those two clowns always seem to be at one another's throats.

One of these days I'm probably gonna get into trouble for spoofing mayor Miller. Funny thing is, about two weeks ago I was on the subway, on my way to a morning appointment, when wouldn't you know it, we had a subway delay. This one was a long one (it had been going off and on for over two hours), and I ended up being stuck in this one subway car for almost an hour. The car was really crowded, but overall people weren't that crabby. They did gripe and moan about the state of the TTC system, though (myself included). The common question was why is it that the more our fares increase, the more we seem to experience subway delays? I'd really like to know the answer to that. Do you think if I sit on mayor Miller's knee, he might tell me? Anyway, while some of us passengers chatted and kvetched, I couldn't help but notice who was seated right across from me. None other than the mayor's wife. I could not help but wonder what she would think if she knew who was sitting across from her –€“ that smart-alec broad who draws those ridiculous cartoons of her husband. No, I didn't introduce myself, and she did not mention to the crowd of TTC riders that she was the wife of Toronto's mayor. She just sat still, quietly reading her newspaper.

Oh, and yes, I know I did not post a poem for Silly Poetry Friday. Mea culpa!! Things are starting to really get hectic around here – I'm starting to do my Christmas entertaining, and I've got a large plate of freelance work to deal with (which of course, is good news, but why does it always seem to happen just before the Christmas season?) So blog posts will be quite erratic for the next few weeks, I'm afraid. But I'll do my best to not miss another Silly Poetry Friday. 'Cuz that's just – silly!

God Bless Cartoonists, Everyone!

Friday night was the annual National Cartoonists Society Canadian Chapter Christmas party (that's quite a mouthful, ain't it? Try saying that after a few glasses of wine, kiddo!) Johnny Martz is the new Canadian Chapter president, and he organized a great party for the evening. Debbie Ridpath Ohi was there, and she took some fabulous photos of the evening. A wonderful time was had by all.

Johnny brought blank cartoon panels and pens, and encouraged everyone to create something, so I got in on the act, as you can see:

Medrawing

Look at this close-up of me drawing. Don't I hold the pen in a really gnarly, bizzare manner? I never realized just how strange it looked from someone else's perspective. Oh well. It gets the job done, don't it?
