Silly Poetry Friday 21
Ok, it's late, but it's still Friday! (At least in my neck of the woods). I just finished watching Michael Moore's SiCKO – quite an impressive, frightening and sad film. So in honour of that film I thought I'd post yet another Uncle Shelby poem (he is the king of silly, so why not?) So what's the name of the poem? Sick, of course!
SICK
"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more – that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue–
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke–
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb,
I have sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my spine is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is–what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is...Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"
Well alls I can say is it's a darn good thing she got better, 'cuz if she lived in the States and didn't have any medical insurance, she'd be in a real pickle. Sorta like this sicko monkey here.
Ha! I remember reading this one when I was a kid. Thanks for posting it.
Poor monkey. Maybe he can piggy bank on his parent's insurance?

Cute poem, thanks.
I always try and do a post every day - even if it has nothing to do with books. LOL

Hi Patricia, thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog, I love books and children's illustration so I'll be back here often. I haven't seen Sicko yet, waiting for a moment when I'm prepared to be in a mood of outrage. And in a small world moment, I just have to add, as I was browsing through your wonderful artwork and website, I grew up in Burlington too! right by the old Skyway Plaza (Lakeside Village it's called now?)

Ellen, hi! Yes, I remember Skyway Plaza. I haven't seen it since it's been 'gentrified'. I can't remember how I found your blog now (just googling 'round the net)...but I know your sisters, Karin and Ingie!
I'm afraid you will be very outraged by 'SiCKO', so you better be prepared for that kind of emotion, especially since you have kids. It's not an easy film to watch.
