Stop the presses!
Wait a minute – what the hell am I saying? Don't stop the presses. But stop what you're doing and take a boo at this! Here's the cover for my upcoming book, The Pirate and the Penguin. Yup – you can now pre-order this beauty at Amazon!
You'll notice that the only name on the cover is moi, because this is my first foray into authorship as well as illustratorship (Is that a word? Not bloody likely. And this gal calls herself an author? Sheesh).
You'll have to wait for the fall for the book to be available, but I just had to share the cover of my baby. It's been almost 2 years that I've been working on this gem, so it is an indescribable feeling to know that it's almost here. (Let's face it – 2 years is a darn long gestation period!)
So what is the story about? Well, I'll just say this for now...think The Prince and the Pauper, only with a pirate and a penguin, and what do you get?
Ah, kiddo, you did it! Such an accomplishment.
I'm going to have to create a special place on my bookshelf for the (autographed) works of author and illustrator Patrica Storms!
You will autograph my copy of The Pirate and the Penguin, won't you?

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
Congratulations, Patricia! (Deadlines met!) As far as "illustratorship" goes, isn't one of the pleasures of being an author (as well) that you get to make up words?

Of course I'll sign a copy for you, Beth. Silly woman.
And frabjous day indeed, Rebecca! Yes, I think I'll start making up a whole claboddle of words...

What a wonderful cover!! Now I know I'll be doing a penguin themed storytime this fall as soon as I can get my hands on this... :)

Well done, Patricia!
I showed it to the resident 6-year-old:
"Pirate! and Penguin! They both start with P!
[She thinks it's hilariously wonderful that your name starts with P too.]
"And there's purple!"
"How come the penguin is ferocious and the pirate is maybe scared when it should be the opposite?"

Ha ha – she'll have to read the story to find out! I would say that the penguin is not ferocious, more...confident. I had originally designed a cover where they were both looking at each other in a pretty crabby way, but the editors thought it was too negative. Heh. But I did get a good crabby look for the both of them on the back cover!

This is totally awesome!
Congratulations Pattycakes!
I would pre-order the thing right this very minute.... but see... I know that you will present me with my own copy with your pawprint on it when I meet you and Beth for coffee at the Indigo Bookstore in the Eatons Center at the end of April....
Right?
