Sigh.

The Swimmer

Took a break from working tonight to watch a movie. Have you seen The Swimmer? Mesmerising. Haunting. One that lingers inside your head long after the movie is over. Burt Lancaster is, as always, amazing (and quite delicious to watch). Mr. Lancaster has always been one of my most favourite actors. Definitely one of a kind.

The film is based on a short story, written by John Cheever, which I have yet to read. The hubby had read the story and seen the movie, and had mentioned both, off and on over the years, so when I realized the movie was on TVO tonight, I knew I had to see it. Of course now I can't sleep; keep thinking about the damn movie, and Burt Lancaster's exquisite form.

Sigh.

Good Night and Good Conversation

Last night Guy and I and a friend went to one of those festival cinemas to see Good Night, And Good Luck. What an excellent film. Engaging, thoughtful, well-crafted, great acting, very atmospheric, and beautiful music throughout. A must see movie. Try and watch it in one of those older theatres, if you can. Much more effective, than say, sitting in one of those tiny boxed-in rooms in those horrid monstrosities known as megaplex cinemas.

After the film lots of great conversation ensued. Guy was in his element. So we bought a bottle of wine, snuggled up on the couch, talked some more, and then settled in to watch an even more sexy film... Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky.

No one can accuse us of not being romantic!

Luminous

Just finished watching the movie Mrs. Miniver for the umpteenth time. Each time I see it, I love it more than the last time. And every time I see it, I cry.

Greer Garson was positively luminous.
